Stamford Bridge has been Chelsea’s home since their formation in 1905. However, talks were taking place in recent years to see the biggest overall of the stadium in the club’s history, with a £1 billion project proposed.
The club temporarily shelved the plans in May to add almost 20,000 seats, taking the overall capacity to 60,000. It was announced this decision was due to the unfavourable investment climate in May, but the visa wrangle between owner Roman Abramovich and the Home Office was also discussed by many as being a contributing factor.
The club were granted planning permission by Hammersmith and Fulham Council, got the green light from London Mayor, Sadiq Khan, and already had plans drawn up from architects Herzog and de Meuron. It all points towards the the stadium being built eventually. Here’s what a few fans thought of the new stadium being put forward.
